Thema der einzelnen Lehreinheiten:

Globalization has increased the importance of doing business across national boundaries. The use of multicultural teams is a growing organizational reality. More and more professionals have to work in or even lead multicultural teams and are consequently faced with numerous challenges arising from cross cultural differences. This course involves a careful examination of multicultural teams, different concepts culture and the impact of cultural differences on individual, organizational and especially group behavior. Students will get a detailed and thorough understanding of intercultural management by analyzing and practicing intercultural communication and negotiation. Furthermore, issues of organization, motivation and leadership in different countries will be explored and discussed. Practical intercultural training is an integral part of the course.

 

Course objectives:
• Be able to explain the term culture using a number of different concepts.
• Understand the importance and challenges of intercultural management and multicultural team work.
• Evaluate cultural differences and their impact on individual, organizational and especially group behavior.
• Develop the ability to analyze communicative situations and to communicate and negotiate effectively with people of different cultural backgrounds.
• Understand the differences in organization, motivation and leadership in different cultures and assess the impact of these differences on multicultural team management.
• Demonstrate improved cultural sensitivity and the ability to work with people from different cultures.
• Be able to apply multicultural team management strategies.
• Prepare case studies and present results to an intercultural audience

Teaching method:
The course will be organized as seminar with strong student involvement. This means that participants will take the knowledge they have acquired and present prepared case studies, while also participating in exercises and discussions.
