Ziele und Inhalt des Kurses: In the process of globalization, interactions between states have increased substantially and this made them more interdependent. Global problems and challenges can only be dealt with, if old state- or economy-centred solutions are overcome by more complex strategies, which rely on the cooperative endeavours of local, national, regional and global actors. International organisations, non-governmental organisations and private actors have become seemingly more and more important in this process, without replacing the state altogether. The aim of the seminar is to provide an overview of current political, security policy and economic developments in international politics. This course will focus on recent press reports of selected issues of global governance. The students will be able to analyse the major challenges in current global governance-affairs and to develop adequate solutions for its major challenges based on concrete (“real life”) problems.
